The term ex libris means “from the library of.”  Bookplates are labels that are placed on the inside covers of books to indicate ownership.  Essex Library’s bookplates like these were used to thank donors who gave books for the library’s circulating collection.  Today the library also uses the term Ex Libris as the title of its semi-annual printed newsletter.
